May 1, 2004 Boise Roughriders vs. Layton Longhorns
BOISE 36 LAYTON LONGHORNS 6
OGDEN - Brian Stogsdill subbed in for normal Roughrider starting quarterback, John Armstrong, passing for 194 yards and three touchdowns in leading the Boise Roughrider over the Layton Longhorns 36-6. With their 1st, 2nd and 3rd string running backs "missing in action", the Roughriders turned to the air and Stogsdill lead the show, a passing show that ammassed a very un-Roughriderlike 262 total passing yards, including 72 yards on 4 catches and 2 touchdowns to defensive line all-star, Austin Callison
After a scoreless first quarter, the Roughrider got on the board with the first of Callison's touchdowns from Stogsdill (12-20-0-194-3). Roughrider place-kicker, Eric Harbison, kicked the first of 3 field goals to close out a tight first half scoring with the Roughrider holding a tentative 10-0 edge over the testy Longhorns before exploding in the third quarter behind Stogsdill and two more Harbison field goals.
The Roughrider defense got another top-notch performance from reigning RMFL defensive MVP, Zac Jockumsen who tacked on to his league-leading tackle mark with 7 more tackles and two quarterback sacks. Also standing out on the Roughrider defense was fellow line-backers, Terance King (5.5 tackles) and Bill Martin (5 tackles, 1 sack) as the Roughriders pulled another defensive gem against the struggling Longhorns.
The Longhorns did get solid play in a losing effort from their star running back, Tyson Leyva (9 carries, 53 yards) and starting quarterback, Steve Wilson (11-25-1-147-1) had a respectable afternoon for the Longhorns. Defensively, the Longhorns rose to the occasion well, siphoning off the usually potent Roughrider rushing attack, lead by linebackers Tony Belford (8 tackles, 2 sacks) and Kevin Slater (6 tackles, 1 sack).
