SOUTH OGDEN 57 MADISON 17

SUGAR CITY - The South Ogden Rhino-Raiders scored 50 unanswered points, 28 in the second quarter after falling behind 17-7 to the Madison Lionz to cruise to a 57-17 road victory.

Otter Tupe (15 carries, 141 yards) rushed for two touchdowns and Dave Stireman (13-24-2-258-2) threw two big touchdown passes to Norvel Young (5 receptions, 139 yards) as the top-ranked Rhino-Raiders overcame the early scare to run away from the Lionz for the victory.

South Ogden suffered 6 personal fouls or unsportsmanlike conduct fouls and a total of 140 penalty yards in the comeback victory.

The Rhino-Raider defense overcame, however, with a swarming defense lead by Jed Davies (7-1/2 tackles, interception) and Jamaal Peterson (4-1/2 tackles). Also shining once again, Nate Miconi (3 tackles, 1 sack), Vaea Fiefia (3 tackles, 1/2 sack), Bill Nebeker (2 tackles, 1 sack) and Shane Dooley (1-1/2 sacks).

Madison looked confident and ready early, snuffing out the first two Rhino-Raider drives early with big interceptions. The second by James VonGunten came near the Madison goal line. Madison's defense, however, gave up 502 total net yards of offense to the Rhino-Raiders, their biggest game of the year.

The Lionz offense was lead, once again, by quaterback Troy Dougherty (15-26-1-195-1) and all-star wide receiver, Buck Mouser (7 receptions, 123 yards) who made a big play early in the second quarter to answer the first Rhino-Raider score with an exciting 78-yard catch and run in which he broke several tackles and outraced the Rhino-Raider secondary to the end zone.

Perhaps missed in the eventual game onslaught, was a new RMFL-record long field goal midway through the first quarter by Madison's Jim Marshall. Marshall hit the field goal from just beyond the 42-yard line for a record 52-yard kick that put the Lionz up 10-0 at the time.
