May 15, 2004 Pocatello Predators vs. Great Falls Gladiators
POCATELLO 27 GREAT FALLS 6
GREAT FALLS - Brock Gunter opened up the second quarter with a big 51-yard reverse play touchdown run and Troy Sutton rushed for 124 yards and two touchdowns as the Pocatello Predators dodged a bullet in Great Falls, overcoming an early 6-0 Gladiator lead to score 27 unanswered points and a 27-6 victory over the home town Great Falls Gladiators.
The Predators went on to amass a total of 246 rushing yards on 44 carries by the combination of Gunter's run, Sutton's series of big runs and Travis Boden (22 carries, 88 yards) bruising line bursts en route to a solid offensive performance and the victory.
Troy Sutton also came up big on defense, forced into two-way duty on the long road trip, Sutton tied an RMFL record with 3 interceptions, to go along with a team-leading 4 tackles on the day. The Predator offense was almost non-existent, with only 81 net yards gained through the air, but the Predator ground attack was in full force and carried the offense.
The Gladiators got two big plays from the combination of quarterback Dee Jones to wide receiver, Clarence Cook. The first was a big 84-yard pass play with 8:04 remaining in the first quarter to give the Gladitors the early lead. He also caught another pass for 37 yards to highlight the biggest offensive plays of the game for a Gladiator offense that has been struggling all season long. The offensive futility was at a peak when late in the second quarter, after Gladiator defensive back, Brad Thurber intercepted a Belnap pass and returned it to the Pocatello 6-yard line; the Gladiators had an opportunity to go up two scores, but could not capitalize.
Defensively, the Gladiators were paced by Brad Thurber (9 tackles), Reid Merriweather (7 tackles, 1 sack), Micheal Rohde (6 tackles) and Chris Nolan (5-1/2 tackles) who spent most of the evening trying to haul down Boden and Sutton.
