May 8, 2004 Great Falls Gladiators vs. Davis Vipers
DAVIS 43 GREAT FALLS 20
BRIGHAM CITY - Davis Viper running back, Josh Christensen was a "man amoung men" rushing for 151 yards on 20 carries, including three first half touchdown runs to lead the Davis Vipers to their first 2004 victory, 43-20 over the visiting Great Falls Gladiators.
Viper quarterback, Terry Smothers also had a solid day, passing for 129 yards and a touchdown as well as rushing for another score. Colby Cook caught 5 passes and the one Smother TD pass as the Viper offense racked up more than 300 total net yards for the first time this season. The Viper defense picked up another score as well when Richard Hoth recovered a Gladiator fumble in the end zone for a touchdown.
The Gladiators struggled on offense again, however, athletic wide receiver, Clarence Cook came within 1 yard of a recently set RMFL record in receiving yards for a game, catching 5 passes for 229 yards, including three home runs from quarterback Dee Jones (7-29-3-251-3). Cook's first reception was an 85-yard catch and run to give the Gladiators the initial lead and then he went on to catch touchdown bomb's of 55 and 63 yards for a total of more than 200 yards on the three touchdown catches alone.
The Viper defensive cause was lead by Chris Norton (8 tackles), Matt Christensen (5-1/2 tackles) and Mike Christensen (4 tackles, 2 interceptions, 1 fumble recovery) as the Vipers shut down the Gladiators to only 43 total net yards of offense... not counting the three big Jones to Cook connections.
The Gladitors got a really big effort out of Micheal Rohde who recorded 10-1/2 tackles for the team. Keon Pinckney and Mike Pease also chipped in 6 stops a piece in the losing effort.
