May 1, 2004 Mountain Home Bengals vs. Glacier Knights
GLACIER 25 MOUNTAIN HOME 6
COLUMBIA FALLS - In perhaps the strangest game of the day, a game that saw 13 turnovers, 7 by the visiting Mountain Home Bengals, the battle of two expansion teams was won 25-6 by the home team for their first ever victory.
The Knights had limited offensive success, however, when they did succeed, they took advantage, converting key Mountain Home turnovers into scores, either touchdowns or Chris Nagel field goals. The Knights actually looked to start out well, until starting quarterback, Bobby Kuehne (2-5-0-49-1, 3 rushes, 10 yards) had to leave the game injured as they scored early and quickly. After the Bengals scored first on an exciting 78-yard bomb from Bengal quarterback Tearie Wilkins (3-5-0-81-1) to Charles Ballard, it was all Glacier... as far as scoring. Kuehne capped a short drive with a 4-yard touchdown sprint and then Kuehne found Seth McCollum on a 46-yard pass play... all in the first quarter.
The staunch defense of the Knights was lead by Tim Merrell who intercepted 3 Bengal passes to go along with 2-1/2 tackles and 1/2 sack for the hat trick. Also big on the Knight defense, Patrick Doty (4.5 tackles) and Troy Zander (4 tackles, interception) made some big stops. Zander also made the big play in the 3rd quarter, blocking a Bengal punt into the end zone for teammate, Seth McCollum to recover to account for the final Knight scoring.
The Bengals had several stars on the long road trip in a losing effort. Wilkins looked solid before having to leave the game and wide receiver, Charles Ballard had a solid game, catching 2 passes for 113 yards. Defensively, Brandon Guest, who also lead all rushers with 35 yards on 10 carries, also lead all tacklers with 6 tackles for the Bengals. Teammates, Garvin Watson (5 tackles, 1 sack) and Shane Jackson (4 tackles, 1 sack) also came up big in shutting down the Glacier offense.
