June 29, 2002 North All-Stars vs. South All-Stars
Rocky Mountain Football League All-Star Game

NORTH STARS 21 SOUTH STARS 19

NAMPA - Spencer French, defensive end of the Madison Lionz made the play of the game. The South Stars had just scored with 35 seconds remaining in the game to pull within 2 points of the North at 21-19. Quarterback, and newly crowned RMFL MVP of 2002, Jeff Belnap made the right call, fake inside dive to big fullback, Tyler Wheatley who had been burning the North defense much of the second half, then he pitched outside to speedster, Reggie Jackson. Only French read the play and was in position to run down Jackson attempting to convert the 2-point play. Jackson tried speed, but French was there, then cutting back inside a diving Jackson came within 6 inches of tying the game at 21, but similar to how the RMFL championship game ended, the diving Jackson came up a little short.

The South started the scoring in the first quarter when Belnap found his favorite receiver, and newly crowned RMFL Offensive MVP 2002, Brock Gunter, on a 10-yard slant route. Gunter was grabbed by Madison defensive back, Derrick Dye, but unlike his teammate, French, was unable to keep a stretching Gunter from scoring the games initial touchdown. Then the North steamed back in the 90-degree heat under the Boise sun. North quarterback, Cody Jackson of the Idaho Falls Mustangs, lead the North down the field to the South 5-yard line, before finding Helena Titan tight end, Mike McNellis on a 5-yard touchdown pass. With 6:51 remaining in the second quarter, Jackson found Mustang teammate, Sean Powell on a 4th down play for a 25-yard touchdown pass and then with a little more than a minute remaining in the game, took it in himself from 4-yards out to put the North up 19-7 at the half. After a mostly scoreless 3rd quarter, South fullback, Tyler ' Wheatley from the Pocatello Silverbacks, broke a quick-hitter up the middle of the North defense and raced in from 32-yards to get the South within 19-13. With 10 minutes remaining in the game, Mustang linebacker and newly crowned RMFL Defensive MVP 2002, Ron Childs of the Idaho Falls Mustangs broke into the South backfield and sacked Belnap in the south end zone for a safety to put the North up 21-13. The score remained there until with 35 seconds to go in the game, Belnap found Treasure Valley tight end, Stuart Dennis dragging the back of the end zone to cap a long drive to make the score 21-19 setting up French's heroics.
